Champion Fiji sevens teams together with top international teams battled it out in the 2016 Bayleys Fiji Coral Coast Sevens tournament:

  • 16 Men's teams competed for the I-WAU trophy
  • Police as the 2014 Bayleys Fiji Coral Coast Sevens Champions are trying to defend their title
  • They will be joined by the winners of our partner tournaments: Aussie Thunderbolts (Central Coast Sevens), Tabadamu (Samoa Independent Sevens) and Denver All Stars (Colorado Rugbytown Sevens)
  • Four Fijian teams will earn their spot in the competition through winning one of the four Qualifying tournaments, hosted by Uluinakau, Yamacia, Wardens and Westfield Dragons
  • The field will be rounded out by top international and local teams
  • 16 Women's teams will compete for the Crest NA IRI trophy
  • The Aussie Pearls will return to defend their title
  • Fijiana is looking to continue their great form from the Olympic Qualification tournament
  • Marist Seahawks, Striders, Nadi Blazers, Mystic Knights and the Central Chiefs will try to find out which team is the best local team
  • The teams will be joined by strong National teams and overseas invitational teams

Sevens rugby is the national sport in Fiji and also provides as the feeder system to the National fifteen side and has repeatedly and consistently been shown to produce some of Fiji's finest players. These players are renowned in world rugby and have made their name alongside some international greats. Brilliant Fiji players include Rupeni Caucau, who is one of the world's fastest wingers, Sireli Bobo, Filimoni Delasau and Waisale Serevi, considered a legendary sevens player.

The national Fiji Sevens team is one of the most admired and successful rugby sevens teams in the world and is famous for its speed and finesse on the field. Fiji is the only nation to have won the Rugby World Cup Sevens twice, in 1997 and 2005 and it has won the Hong Kong Sevens a record fifteen times since 1976.

Fiji are the current 2014/2015 World Rugby Sevens Series Champions. Fiji is also qualified for the Rio Olympic Games in 2016.

The national Women's Sevens team - Fijiana - have also qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
